Club Contests
Toastmasters hosts club contests as an annual event. All members are encouraged to participate, either as a contestant or as an official host. Being involved in the club contests is a great way to stretch yourself beyond the regular club meetings and it is an opportunity for you to shine - either as a speaker or as a leader.
We host four (4) contests:
- International Speech Contest (5-7 minute prepared and structured speech)
- Humorous Speech Contest (5-7 minute prepared and structured speech with a focus on humour)
- Evaluation Speech Contest (2-3 minute analytical speech)
- Table Topics Speech Contest (1-2 minute impromptu speech)
The club contests are held between August-October. The 1st and 2nd place winners from the club go through to the next level - the Area contests (usually held in November). The 1st place winner progresses through to the Central Division contest (usually held in March). The winner of this contest will represent District 73 (usually held in May). All contests, except the International Speech contests, finish at District level. The International Speech Contest winner progresses through to compete at an International level.
The contests are not only about the speakers competing in the event. These events are also a time for the leaders in the club to step forward in the organisation and hosting of the events. All club executives are encouraged to take on an official role, such as Contest Chair, Chief Judge, judge, tally counter.
We have a comprehensive document - Guide to Hosting Club Contests - which is located in the Public Downloads section of this website.
